Sydney Conservatorium of Music

On 1 January 1990 the Sydney Conservatorium of Music became an academic college of the University of Sydney under the University of Sydney Act 1989 with the status of a faculty.In the period to mid 1974, the Conservatorium of Music was an administrative component of the NSW Department of Education. From then till its amalgamation with the University of Sydney in 1990, it was an integral part of the Office for the Minister of Education. The Conservatorium was funded by the State Government through the consolidated revenue fund. Expenditure incurred in respect of approved advanced education programmes offered by the Conservatorium was recouped by the State from the Commonwealth under the provision of State Grants (Tertiary Education Assistance) legislation.In 2005 the Department of Music within the Faculty of Arts amalgamated with the Conservatorium of Music.As part of the University's strategic planning 2016-2020, Senate decided in December 2015 to reduce the number of faculties from 16 to six, with three additional schools reporting directly to the Provost to come into effect 1 January 2017.  On 12 December 2016 Senate approved the University Of Sydney (Governance of Faculties and University Schools Rule) 2016 [new] which under 2.3 (c) established the Sydney Conservatorium as one of these schools.  [9. Vice-Chancellor's Report, Resolution SEN-16/6-105] New committee structure requirements for faculty and University schools came into effect from 1 January 2021. On 6 November 2020, Senate approved amendments to the Governance of Faculties and University Schools Rule 2016 (‘GOFUS’) enabling the creation of a consistent faculty/University school committee structure. Under this new rule from 2021, faculties and University schools were required to have the following five core committees: •    Research Committee•    Research Education Committee•    Education Committee•    Indigenous Strategy and Services Committee, and•    Work Health and Safety Committee.If required, faculties and University schools were able to establish up to three optional faculty layer committees to meet local requirements, and could also establish sub-committees reporting to the core committees.
