College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS)
Senate 4 December 1997104/96 Report of the Vice-Chancellor and Principal(1) Proposed New Academic and Senior Management StructureTwo newspaper articles were tabled (Tabled item). The Vice-Chancellor spoke to his proposed new academic and senior management structure which, if approved, would have effect from 3 March 1997, and the extensive consultations which had taken place. The proposed new academic structure would comprise three academic colleges - Health Sciences, Sciences and Technology, and Humanities and Social Sciences - each headed by a Pro-Vice-Chancellor (College). The Health Sciences College would comprise the current Health Sciences Academic Group, i.e. the Faculties of Dentistry, Health Sciences, Medicine and Nursing; the Sciences and Technology College would comprise the Faculties of Agriculture, Architecture, Engineering, Science and Veterinary Science and the Orange Agricultural College; and the Humanities and Social Sciences College would comprise the Faculties of Arts, Economics and Law, the Sydney College of the Arts, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the Graduate School of Business. The Vice-Chancellor also spoke to the proposed new senior management structure, which was outlined in the paper tabled at Monday's meeting. The Vice-Chancellor regretted not having prepared and circulated a paper in advance. It could not have been circulated until he had had an opportunity to consult with the Chancellor, and it had been impossible to arrange a time for a meeting. He emphasised that the proposal was essentially a redistribution of existing resources, with the effect that only two positions needed to be filled, those of the two Deputy Vice-Chancellors. He said that he sought Senate's endorsement for the proposed new academic and senior management structures, and its approval of the two new Deputy Vice-Chancellor positions. In 2006 the College structure was replaced by a new arrangement of academic entities, as follows:• Faculties of Engineering and Architecture, comprising the Faculties of Engineering and Information Technologies; and Architecture, Design and Planning• Faculties of Health, comprising the Faculties of Dentistry; Health Sciences; Medicine; Nursing and Midwifery; and Pharmacy• Faculties of Science, comprising the Faculties of Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources; Science; and Veterinary Science• Faculties of Arts, comprising the Faculty of Arts and the Sydney College of the Arts• Faculty of Economics and Business, including the Graduate School of Government• Faculty of Education and Social Work• Faculty of Law• Sydney Conservatorium of Music
