Papers and Photographs Relating to the War Memorial Carillon [Ernest Rudolph (ER) Holme] (Series 1078)

In 1924 the University launched an appeal to raise funds to build a war memorial carillon in the clock tower. Holme was appointed Honorary Secretary of the Executive Committee running the appeal and in 1926 visited Britain, Belgium, Holland and Ireland to inspect other carillons. The successful tenderer for the University carillon was John Taylor and Company of Loughborough, UK.

This series consists of papers relating to the appeal, which include Holme's research notes including photographs of various carillons and bells and confidential reports; correspondence; drafts for newspaper articles mainly concerning the campanile issue; a copy of a fundraising prospectus by the University Campanile Committee; a note from 1937 inviting members of the 'Carillon family' to Holme's house for a get-together; a small farewell greeting note from the 'Carillon family', dated 1939;  musical notes for 'A Little Fantasy and Fugue' by Hamilton Harty; Sydney University War Memorial Carillon Music Series, No.1; and Professor Todd's correspondence re memorial hymns.
