Minutes [Board of Social Studies] [Board of Studies in Social Work] (Series 42)

Minutes of the Board of Social Studies and the Board of Studies in Social Work are contained in the same series. The series is incomplete, containing 14 bound volumes (with microfilm copies) of signed minutes dating from 1940 to 1984. The last minutes for 1984 were signed at a meeting held on 27 March 1985.

Volume 2 of the series contains minutes for both Boards as well as for a committee representing the Board of Studies in Social Work [28/03/1955 meeting]. In 1951 Senate had agreed in principle to changes recommended in a report by a special committee which had been appointed to make recommendations concerning the future development of the Social Studies course. They agreed to change the course and institute a postgraduate course in March 1955. The University's By-Laws had been amended but approval by the Governor in Council was still pending. While the changed By-Laws were awaiting approval, Senate gave authority for a committee to exercise the functions previously exercised by the Board of Social Studies and for the functions about to be exercised by the Board of Studies in Social Work. The minutes record such matters as dates of meetings, attendees, apologies, reports of the Director, or from the Chair, matters discussed in relation to the development of courses, staff appointments, students admitted, progress of students, lectures, annual reports to Senate, resolutions, and reports from any committees or subcommittees. The minutes are complimented by two administrative files relating to meetings of the Board of Studies in Social Work relating to meetings from 1980 to 1984 [Files 025/0002/00001 - 01-05].
