MP's Responses to Student's Appeals re Closure of College [Guild Teachers College Limited] (Series 551)

This series contains the responses from various Members of Parliament (MPs) to appeals in mid 1978 by College students against the recommendations contained in the original Butland Report (1977). A copy of the response by the College Council and Administration to that report is enclosed in the file. The students and staff were seeking the assistance of the MPs to avert the recommended closing of the College at the end of 1978 and its amalgamation with other inner city Colleges of Advanced Education. There are no copies of the actual student/staff letters but the folder does include a draft letter to the MPs and a list of the students who submitted appeals, the names of the MPs and their respective electorates. The series contains a mix of originals, typescript and photocopied copies, in 1 folder. See also Series 550 and 552.
