Academic Board [Cumberland College of Health Sciences (CCHS)]

An Academic Board had been in operation since the College became a Corporate College on 1 October 1974. It was formally established under the College By-law Clause 29. Council amended its draft By-law at its meeting on 8 June 1976 (resolution 76/26:

"There shall be a Board called the Academic Board which shall advise the Council on matters concerned with the educational work of the College and shall exercise and perform such other powers, authorities, duties and functions as may be determined by the Council from time to time. The membership of the Academic Board shall be:

(1) The Principal; (2) The Assistant Principal; (iii) The Secretary; (iv) The Heads of Schools and Departments; (v) The Director, Resource Centre; (vi) The Director of Clinical Studies; (vii) Such number of students, members of its academic and no-academic staff as the Council may determine."

The Academic Board advised the College Council on academic matters. Its composition was established under the College By-law. To facilitate its work, the Board established Committees which originated or considered business referred to them by the Academic Board for discussion and recommendation. The committee structure that was in place when the College became an incorporated College stayed in place in the first instance; existing committees continued to meet and reported to the Board. Under conditions determined by the Board the various Committees could receive submissions and act on behalf of the Academic Board. 

The Academic Board formally established its committees under Resolution AB 23/77 at its meeting held on 25 May 1977.

The Committees of the Academic Board were: Admissions and Assessment Committee, Clinical Education Committee, Curriculum Committee, Higher Degree Committee and Research Committee.
