Board of Studies for the Diploma in Aboriginal Assistants Education

A Board of Studies responsible to the Faculty of Education was established to supervise the award of the Diploma in Aboriginal Assistants Education which was offered by the Aboriginal Education Centre (AEC) [later renamed Koori Centre] within the Faculty of Education. The AEC was responsible for training Aboriginal Education Assistants for primary and secondary schools in the State/Board of Studies for the Diploma in Aboriginal Assistants Education is first listed in the 1991 Calendar. The Diploma in Aboriginal Assistants Education was the first undergraduate diploma in the history of the University. Seven Aboriginal diploma students graduated in December." [Annual Report 1990, p.35]Following the relocation of the Koori Centre into Academic Group D in 1993, new administrative/management committees were formed in support of academic programs and activities. A Board of Aboriginal and Indigenous Studies was formed to supervise the Award of the Diploma in Aboriginal Assistants Education and to foster the development of further appropriate academic programs. This new Board replaced the Board of Studies which had supervised the award of the Diploma and which had reported to the Faculty of Education. The newly constituted Board reported directly to the Academic Board.
