Chau Chak Wing Museum

In September 2015 the University announced that a major donation of Dr Chau Chak Wing would allow the University to establish a new museum at the University of Sydney housing the University’s Macleay, Nicholson and University Art Gallery collections. The donation was to fund the building of a 6000 square metre museum by redeveloping the historic Macleay and adjacent Edgeworth David buildings and connecting them via a new modern extension. Further major donations by the Nelson Meers Foundation, Penelope Seidler and The Ian Potter Foundation assisted the University to build a new museum, on 18 November 2016 the University announced a new location for the Museum and outlined its plans to bring together the collections of the Nicholson, Macleay Museum and University Art Gallery into the new Chau Chak Wing Museum. The new museum opened on 18 November 2020.
