Council [Guild Teachers College]

The Guild Teachers' College was established in 1969 by the Teachers Guild of New South Wales. It continued the Guild's previous teacher training activities, which had been supervised by the Guild's Teacher Training Committee. The Committee and its successor, the Teacher Education Committee, continued to be responsible for the College. Minutes of the former Committee are held for the period 1948 to 1973 (Group S108, Series 19). In order to qualify as a College of Advanced Education, the latter Committee was replaced in April 1975 by the Guild College Council. Furthermore, in order to obtain Government finance, a distinct separate body with its own autonomous Council was required. That requirement resulted in the incorporation of the College on 24 March 1977 as The Guild Teachers College Limited. Article 35 of that company's Articles of Association provided that the College should be governed and administered by the Council. It specified the number and composition of the officially elected and co-opted members, including staff, student and graduate representatives.
