Earth Resources Foundation
The Foundation was established by Senate in 1976 within the then Department of Geology and Geophysics in the Faculty of Science. The Provisional Council and constitution of the Foundation were established by Senate at its meeting of 6 September 1976 [76/222]. The objects of the Foundation included advising the Senate and the Vice-Chancellor on matters associated with research in earth resources in the Departments of Geology and Geophysics, including promoting, developing and assisting research in geology and geophysics.By 2006 the University had taken a new approach to governance of Foundations and established new rules for existing and new foundations within the University. It recognised the valuable role of foundations in contributing to the resources of the University. In 2012 the Vice-Chancellor recommended to Senate (1) that the foundation be terminated pursuant to Rule 5 of the Foundation Rules. The Earth Resources Foundation had adopted the University's new Foundation Rules on 1 July 2006. The Foundation had not operated since the end of 2009 and the dean of Science and the head of Geosciences had agreed that the foundation no longer contributed sufficiently of effectively to the resources (either financial or non-financial) of the University; and (3) that Senate resolve to terminate the Earth Sciences Foundation as per Rule 5.2(b) of their Rules. This recommendation was approved under delegated authority by the Chancellor on 14 March 2012. [Doc2014/318408]
