Board of Studies in Nutrition and Dietetics
The Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics was first offered by the University in 1968 within the Faculty of Science; it was supervised by a Board of Studies in Nutrition and Dietetics established under By-law XIII Section 48.
The Faculty of Science By-Law Chapter XIII established:
DIPLOMA IN NUTRITION AND DIETETICS
47. There shall be a Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics (Dip. N.D.).
48. The award of the Diploma shall be supervised by a Board of Studies in Nutrition and Dietetics responsible to the Faculty of Science and consisting of' the Deans of the Faculties of Science, Medicine, Agriculture, Veterinary Science and Dentistry, the Pro-Dean of the Faculty of Science, one representative appointed by the Faculty of Science of each of the Departments of Animal Husbandry, Biochemistry, Child Health, Preventive Medicine and Physiology and of the Teaching Hospitals of the University, the New South Wales Departments of Public Health and the New South Wales Institute of Dieticians and not more than three additional members appointed by the Faculty of Science on the recommendation of the aforesaid members. Any person so appointed shall hold office for two years and shall be eligible for reappointment.
49. The Dean of the Faculty of Science shall be Chairman of the Board of Studies.
50. The Board of Studies shall consider and report to the Faculty of Science upon all matters relating to the studies, lectures and examinations in the Diploma.

By 1971 the By-Laws had been amended and the Diploma and Board were covered under Chapter XIII, 29-34, expanding on the requirements for the Diploma and the role of the Board:
33. (1) The Faculty of Science, on the recommendation of the Board of Studies, may admit to candidature for the Diploma graduates of the University of Sydney in the Faculties of Medicine, Science, Dentistry, Veterinary Science and Agriculture who have, unless exempted by the Board of Studies, completed acceptable courses in Biochemistry and Physiology. (2) The Professorial Board, on the recommendation of the Board of Studies and of the Faculty, may admit to candidature for the Diploma graduates of other universities who have qualifications equivalent, in the opinion of the Professorial Board, to those specified in subsection (1), and on such conditions as the Board of Studies may prescribe.
34. After admission a candidate shall complete, over a period of not more than one year, except with the permission of the Board of Studies, the following requirements— (a) lectures in Advanced Nutrition, Applied Nutrition and Public Health Practice, and Nutrition Education; (b) essays as prescribed; (c) at least three months of practical work, of which at least two months shall follow the completion of lectures; (d) observations and practical work in areas as prescribed by the Board of Studies; (e) examinations and such other tests as may be required.
The 1985 Calendar motes that the Senate had approved an amendment of the by-laws to change the abbreviation of Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics from Dip. N.D. to DipNutrDiet.
By 1990 the role of the Board had extended and it was now supervising the award of the Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics and the degrees of Master of Nutrition and Dietetics and Master of Nutritional Science. The Board is last listed in the 1999 Calendar. Its role was taken over by the Nutritional Science Program Committee. The Terms of Reference for the new Committee were:
1. The Committee, which shall be established generally in line with Resolutions of the Senate relating to Faculties, Colleges, College Boards, Boards of Studies, Departments, Schools and Committees shall be responsible for:
i) considering and making recommendations to die Dean on such matters as die Dean requires; and
ii) considering and making recommendations to the Dean on
a) the structure of the BSc(Nutrition), MNutDiet and MNutSc degree programs
b) the application of the degree resolutions as they affect candidates.
