It was the responsibility of the Faculty of Science to consider and report to the Senate upon such subjects as had relation to the studies, lectures, examinations and degrees in Science, and such other subjects as may be referred to it by the Senate. In 1918, with the establishment of a Chair of Architecture and and a School of Architecture at the University, a Board of Studies in Architecture was established within the Faculty of Science to report to the Faculty on the department of Architecture.
"The Board of Studies in Architecture shall consist of members of the Senate who are architects, the Professors of Architecture, Engineering and Mathematics, the Independent Lecturers in the architectural subjects of the curriculum and Demonstrator in Civil Engineering.
The Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor, the Warden, and the Dean of the Faculty of Science shall be ex officio members of [the Faulty's] Boards of Studies." [By laws Chap XXI.3; Calendar 1919, p. 74]
At the time of the establishment of the School of Architecture and the Board of Studies in Architecture the faculty structure within the University was under review and the establishment of a Faculty of Architecture was under discussion. On 3 November 1919 Senate adopted the report of the committee it had appointed to consider the Professorial Board's recommendations on the academic structure of the University. The recommendation included the creation of six new faculties including Architecture. New By-laws establishing the new faculties were approved by Senate at its meeting in February 1920. The function of the ten faculties of the University were spelt out in By Laws Chap IX, Calendar 1920.
The functions of the Board of Studies in Architecture and the School of Architecture were taken over by the new Faculty of Architecture and the Board of Studies ceased to exist.
