Sir Hermann Blacks private funeral service was held on 5 March 1990, and a Memorial Ceremony was held in the Great Hall, University of Sydney on 23 March 1990.
It is estimated that he graduated over 60,000 students during his time as Chancellor, at that time approximately half of all the graduates of the University.
