Dame Constance D’Arcy, an obstetrician and gynaecologist, becomes the first woman graduate elected to the Senate in 1919. She joins the first woman on Senate Catherine Winifred (Kate) Dwyer who was appointed to Senate by the Governor in 1916.
D'Arcy was the first woman who served as Deputy Chancellor of the University, from 1943 to 1946.
