Aranda - Types of Totemism in Australia

Language Groups: Nhanda^, Yindjibarndi, Kariyarra, Yinggarda, Thalanyji. [Briefly: ?Chanalyabura - of the Nhuwala group, Kurrama ].

Places: Western Australia, The Pilbara, Northampton, Carnarvon, Port Hedland, Ashburton, Sherlock - Gascoyne - Woormael Rivers, Pell's Creek, Onslow, Minnie Creek, Milly Creek, Mt Thomson, Meekatharra.

The material is comprised of 3 bundles, 338 pages, of handwritten and typescript notes by AR Radcliffe-Brown. It is concerned with the social organisation of primarily five north-west Western Australian language groups.

Bundle 1, 208 pp: Relationships. It is not clear to which language group these notes refer, however they do appear to be Western Australian given names such as Ashburton Downs, Mt Augustus, Meekatharra etc. [Brief notes on Kinship Marriage of the Yindjibarndi on page 208].

Bundle 2, 84 pp: Relationships, genealogies. Primarily Nhanda^, Kariyarra, Yinggarda, Thalanyji.

Bundle 3, 46 pp, 1 map of Western Australia containing outlines of undefined boundaries. It is not clear to which language group/s the notes refer, only the Kariyarra is named. [The Kariyarra System is outlined twice].
