This item contains various documents, including a draft copy of Elkin's 1961 published article 'The Yabuduruwa', Oceania Vol. 31, No. 3, pp. 166-209 which he has annotated; typescript notes; correspondence with various people; and, research notes relating to Elkin's study of the Yabuduruwa ceremony of Arnhem Land.

(These research notes and correspondence also contain details on Elkin's interpretation of the Yabuduruwa ceremony performed at Roper River Mission in 1965, at which time it was also filmed for the (then) Australian Institute of Aboriginal Studies (now AIATSIS) by Cecil Holmes. Although Elkin was not present at that time, he had been asked by the Institute to assist with editing the film. His notes include details about individuals, including their names, who either participated directly in the performance, and/or who were members of the performing groups. One of the performers, Dennis Daniels, assisted Elkin in Sydney with his interpretation and analysis of the ceremony.)
