Additional Records of the Oxometrical Society

These records were deposited in the Archives to document the Society. They consist predominantly of copies made of the original material held by its President RN Bracewell which have now been transferred to the Archives. While there are duplications, these earlier deposits have been included in their entirety with the Society's records. Included are notes on the background of the Society, images of a Plaque Celebrating the Society in the Engineering Garden, Recollections of the Society, carbon copy of Proceedings of the Society Vol 1, 1942 and copies of press releases relating to the Society.

The brass plaque commemorating the Oxometrical Society from the Engineering Garden has the following text: The Oxometrical Society Was Founded in 1942 by Engineers To Stem The Proliferation of Oxoplasm. Under the text is shown an image of the Society's great seal (a bull) including the inscription 'Sigillum Societatis Oxometricalis' plus the founder members names: RN Bracewell, President; B Carter; RB Coulson, Orator; WJ Eastaway, Vice-President; FA Edwards; JK Formby, Scriptor; BY Mills; RF Treharne; OL Wirsu, Secretary; EE Adderley, Spokesman.

The plaque had been affixed to the tallest stone of a group of standing stones in the garden of the University's Mechanical Engineering Building, which had been left behind after Mining Engineering rock drilling exercises.
