Letters by TWE David [Tannatt William Edgeworth (TWE) David] (Series 1494)

This series consists of letters, most of which are copies of typed letters, presumed to have been authored and sent by TWE David (Items 3-6). The majority of the papers are dated 1928-1929; about 20% are dated 1930-1934; and about 10% are dated 1920-1926. Most were written after David retired from the University of Sydney. Many letters are addressed to David's research colleagues.

The correspondence authored by David and relating to the British Antarctic Expedition 1907-1909, the Coral Boring expeditions to Funafuti in 1897-1898 or to David's research on fossil fauna in the Adelaide series of rock in South Australia have been arranged separately in Series 1450, 1453, 1454 and 1459. Undated drafts and working papers comprise about 5% of the series. Letters which appear to be originals date from 1883 to 1934; most pertain to David's war service; it is not know if these letters were returned to David or given to his daughter, Mary David, at a later date; moreover, it is not known if some of the letters are actually drafts. Other original letters in David's hand are located in Series 1453; they pertain to the Coral Boring Expedition to Funafuti 1897-1898.
