Photographs and Other Records Relating to Various Antarctica Expeditions [Tannatt William Edgeworth (TWE) David] (Series 1452)

The greatest number of photographs are prints annotated by Raymond E Priestly; they depict the Northern Party of Scott's expedition in 1912-1913. There are a number of unidentified prints; some depict the ship "Aurora" and Douglas Mawson's hut and other views thought to have been photographed during the Australasian Antarctic Expedition led by Mawson in 1911-1914.

There is also an album of photographs of microorganisms with annotations ascribed to TWE David (Item 1). The photographs, 42 gelatin prints approximately 6.5 x 6.5cm are not dated; the magnifications are given. They depict microorganisms contained in a series of slides made from a specimen of limestone breccia collected by Frank Wild during the sledge journey of the Southern Party up the Beardmore Glacier during the 1907-1909 British Antarctic Expedition. The specimen was collected from a lateral moraine located near 85 degrees south latitude. The typescripts were authored by Priestly, CE Tilley, and unidentified authors. One script is a copy of diary notes by an unidentified author for the period January to February 1911.

Most of the printed matter is in the form of press cuttings pertaining to the 1911-1914 Australasian Antarctic Expedition, Amunsden's expedition and Australian control of the Antarctic Territory in the early 1930s. There is also a set of postcards published by the Scottish Antarctic Expedition of 1904. The records of David's work for the Antarctic Committee of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science are in Series 1486.
