Records Relating to 1907-1909 British Antarctic Expedition [Tannatt William Edgeworth (TWE) David] (Series 1449)

This series includes:

- typescripts by Raymond E Priestley, "Scientific Results of the Western Journey" and "Meteorological Notes Dec 1, 1908 to Jan 24, 1909".

- original manuscript and typescript by EW Skeats, "Report on Some Limestones from the Antarctic" (also manuscript original).

- typescript by Griffith Taylor, "Notes upon Archaeocyathinae", dated 1910.

- results of analyses of rock samples and table of measurements of latitude, longitude and magnetic declination made on the journey to the magnetic pole; the folios are annotated by TWE David.

- lists of photographs and specimens and miscellaneous notes in David's handwriting possibly used for lectures given by David.

- copies (seven photographic prints) of sketches made by David in 1908.

- typescript of extracts from a diary dating from 7 November 1908 to 28 February 1909 ascribed to Wild.

- a copy of a letter to Ernest Shackleton from King Edward and two documents registering Shackleton's copyright in articles about the 1907-1909 British Antarctic Expedition published in the Sydney Morning Herald and the Daily Telegraph newspapers.

- a handwritten copy of a meteorological report of the "Nimrod" dated May to June 1909; designated Item 1.

- copies of printed material pertaining to the Expedition, including articles describing the Expedition written by David and published in the Sydney Morning Herald in March to April 1908.

An early copy of a photograph taken at the celebration to mark David's return from the Expedition is located in the personal papers of Archibald Liversidge. Lawrence Hargrave's instructions on using the cellular kite are in Series 1471, Item 5. These instructions were probably written to accompany the replica of Hargrave's cellular kite made for the Expedition; see guide to Series 1471.
