The images in this series have been assessed by Dr Gumbula, Yolngu elder, and digitised for community access.

The images were formerly part of Series 739:

Some images taken by FD McCarthy from P205 Item 2.

Some of the images marked garma (open to public access) and dhuni makarr-garma (elder mediated images) were published in 2012 under the title: Mali Buku-Runamaram and copies were sent to the north-eastern Arnhem Land community libraries. Restricted images marked ngarra have not been published.

Note that the Yolngu-Matha descriptions provided to the Archives by Dr Gumbula had to be uploaded with the correct symbols (Ŋ, ä, n, t, d, l ). On Dr Gumbula's wishes the items are nor searchable online. Please consult Mali Buku-Runamaram to see correct spelling.

As part of the Historic Aboriginal Photographs Research Project undertaken by the Archives, 2018-2020, additional metadata was added to certain items taken by AP Elkin. Where this has happened, it will be acknowledged that it has been added by the project.
