A report entitled "Report of visit to Pindan Camps" by Jessie MG Street. Street reports on the following: The Aboriginal people's Pindan Pty Group at Port Hedland and Kadyereenya, living conditions, labour, the movement of Aboriginal labourers from the stations, and camp life. Street, a prominent feminist and human rights activist all her adult life had, in 1956, returned from London at the request of the British Anti-Slavery Society to report on the conditions of Aboriginal Australians. Following the 1946-1949 pastoral strike by Aboriginal men in the Pilbara, the strikers formed a community which sought economic and social independence from the pastoralists. Following the failure of the first venture, the Pindan Group established the Pindan Camps at Port Hedland and Kadyereenya. Run by the Pindan Pty Group, an all Aboriginal shareholding, the camps housed a large number of workers and their families including the elderly.
