Research Reports and Publications [Macintosh Quaternary Dating Radiocarbon Laboratory] (Series 238)

The records in this series relate to research of Richard Gillespie BSc, Professional Officer with the Laboratory within the Department of Physical Chemistry, undertaken for his PhD and in collaboration with scientists in other universities and government organisations. Gillespie was appointed in the mid-1970s and resigned in 1979.

The research of the Laboratory has included the dating of Indigenous artefacts and related prehistoric sites; the determination of the value of marine mollusc shells as calibration material; the estimation of atmospheric carbon dioxide to 6000 BC and beyond from measurements of Carbon-14 in Tasmanian trees; and dating studies providing information on past changes in the earth's magnetic field.
