Class Booklets About Availability of Students for Employment [Department of Chemical Engineering] (Series 1265)

This series consists of booklets entitled, "Class of 'Year', availability for employment, courses of study and individual records", prepared and published by the Department of Chemical Engineering. The booklets cover 1981 to 1998 with the following years missing: 1982, 1985, 1987, 1992, and 1994 to 1996. Since 1959, the Department had been publishing an annual Graduation Book which recorded the academic achievements and personal details of the current graduating students. The objective was to present prospective employers with information about the graduating class. In 1981, the Department included for the first time information on postgraduates who were completing their studies that year, however, students who were engaged in the industry and were doing the course part-time were not included. In addition to students' records, the booklets included statistics on the availability of new chemical engineering graduates from all Australian universities and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, and on employment opportunities for chemical engineers in Australia, based on advertised vacancies. It also showed the areas in which the Department's graduates had been employed over previous years, positions accepted by graduates of the previous year with average starting salary, and the positions accepted by recent higher degree graduates.
