Portrait Funds Appeal [Ernest Rudolph (ER) Holme] (Series 1012)

This series consists of one folder and contains correspondence, financial statements, circular letters, and handouts about the Portrait Fund. A public meeting on 23 February 1921 formally initiated a fund for the provision of new portraits for the University. The aim of the fund was to raise approximately one thousand pounds for portraits of HE Barff (Registrar), JT Wilson (Professor of Anatomy), and Sir Edgeworth David (Professor of Geology) for the Great Hall. Holme was one of three honorary secretaries of the fund. By June 1921 over 1100 pounds had been subscribed to the fund. The portraits were completed by 1923 and were handed over to the Chancellor at the 1923 Annual Commemoration.
