Records Relating to Evening Extension Courses [Sydney Teachers College (STC) Office of the Principal] (Series 495)

Commencing in 1911, the Principal, Professor Alexander Mackie, arranged for evening extension courses to be conducted. Initially, the courses were to be lectures in Kindergarten and Infant School work. By 1913 the extension course had both a first year and second year component. Courses were later offered to address the needs of teachers preparing for the first, second or third class certificate, High School Teachers, Continuation School Teachers or advanced courses open to all teachers. According to the then Registrar of the College, Kenneth Matthews, writing in 1955, Mackie did not have Public Service Board approval to run the courses. They were self-financing, but were said to have stopped when SH Smith became Under Secretary. Lectures were given by members of the College staff.

This series consists of nine folders with information on year/ term, courses given and students' applications, names and results for course attendees for the years 1914 to 1920. Information on 1918 courses is missing.
