The University (Amendment) Act 1912, made provision for evening tutorial classes, and on 1 September 1913, Senate requested the Professorial Board to report on the costs involved in establishing tutorial classes. In November 1913, the Minister for Public Instruction agreed to place at Senate's disposal £1,000 for the purpose of conducting tutorial classes.
