Minutes [University Extension Board] (Series 243)

On 5 July 1886, Senate adopted by-laws for the establishment of extension lectures. Lectures were established in English Literature, Modern History and Political Economy. The University Extension Board was established by resolution of Senate on 18 July 1892. This series consist of three bound volumes of minutes of meetings held by the Board, which have also been microfilmed. The series also includes minutes of the Board's subcommittees. Minutes in the first two volumes have been handwritten whereas those in the third volume have been printed and pasted in. Volume three is bulging and split at the spine. 

Box 1 contains Volume 1, 04/02/1890 to 07/07/1923, and Volume 2, 09/08/1923 to 09/08/1944. Box 2 contains Volume 3, 15/11/1944 to 19/10/1972. The minutes from 4 February 1890 to 18 August 1892 (Volume 1) refer to the Extension Lectures Committee. In addition to the minutes, the first volume contains lists of lectures and lectures delivered, and of local area secretaries. Volume 2 has an index inserted and it contains information on the broadcasting of lectures and minutes of the Broadcasting Committee which held its first meeting on 29/12/1929. The minutes do not contain names of course participants.  Enrolments and results for courses by the University Extension Board in 1887 to 1892 are in an early volume of exam results labelled 'Miscellaneous'.
