Senate resolved the creation of the The Sydney Law School Foundation within the University of Sydney, 2 April 1990. The general object of the Foundation was to advise and assist the Senate of the University, the Vice-Chancellor and the Faculty of Law on matters associated with the promotion and development of teaching and research in Law within the University. The key focus of the Foundation was to raise sponsorship for the proposed new Law School on the Camperdown Campus.
Due to the lack of momentum for the project and consequent decision not to go ahead with a new law school building, the Foundation had not been active since 1993. As of May 1996 the main purpose of the Foundation was to receive and disperse money associated with corporate sponsorship of three Chairs within the Faculty. (Registered file 037/0048/0007).
The Foundation Council and the Dean of the Law School determined that the members of the Council could be more effective in their support for the Law School as an advisory body to the Dean rather than as a foundation of the University, and the Foundation was terminated 9 September 2014.
