At its meeting on 12 December 2016 Senate approved the creation of the new Faculty of Medicine and Health to consist of the schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Midwifery, Pharmacy, Public Health and Biomedical Sciences (working title). It was also to include the then Faculty of Health Sciences as a school when it moved to the Camperdown/Darlington Campus from its location in Lidcombe. [Senate Resolution SEN_16/6-105]
The University of Sydney School of Dentistry, known as Sydney Dental School within the Faculty of Medicine and Health came into effect 30 April 2018. [Faculty of Health and Medicine News (7 March 2018)]
In 2020 the school's teaching, clinical activities and research are structured into six disciplines; oral biosciences, oral health, oral surgery, medicine and diagnostics, orthodontic and paediatric dentistry, population oral health and restorative and reconstructive dentistry.
