With the establishment of a new Faculty of Medicine and Health the former Faculty of Medicine, also known as Sydney Medical School, became the University of Sydney School of Medicine, known as Sydney Medical School, within the new Faculty; effective 30 April 2018.
At 12 December 2016 meeting of Senate, Senate approved the creation of the new Faculty of Medicine and Health, which would consist of schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Midwifery, Pharmacy, Public Health and Biomedical Sciences (working title). It will also include the current Faculty of Health Sciences as a school when it moves to the Camperdown/Darlington Campus from its current location in Lidcombe in 2020. The School of Medical Sciences (SOMs) and School of Public Health as well as the clinical schools were no longer schools within Sydney Medical School but became schools within the new Faculty of Medicine and Health. [Faculty of Health and Medicine News (7 March 2018)]
