The Vice Chancellor reported to Senate 6 December 2010 that the principals of the University's residential colleges had expressed a desire to meet more formally with University management, and to have a stronger relationship with the University's governance mechanisms. This was desirable on a number of fronts:
a) it would enable he University to collaborate more fruitfully with the colleges to achieve The University strategic aim of increasing the amount of on-campus accommodation
b) it would allow earlier identification and speedier resolution of problems, from infrastructure issues to student discipline matters
c) it would improve the level of pastoral care and the quality of the student experience for college residents by enabling a more comprehensive approach, and
d) it will engender a more collaborative approach to manage capital planning
The VC proposed to establish a Colleges Consultative Committee (CCC) of SEG, to meet three times a year. The VC would chair the committee which would include the DVC (education) and the principal of each college. SEG endorsed the establishment of the meeting.
(Senate Minutes 6 December 2010 item 6.1.7)
The CCC continued as a committee of the University Executive following the abolition of SEG.
The Colleges Consultative Committee (CCC) will be a forum for the exchange of views on topics across the broad spectrum of college matters.
The UE Colleges Consultative Committee will:
1. enable consultation and collaboration between the University and the Residential Colleges in respect of pastoral care, student experience and other matters of mutual interest; and
2. be a channel for the University Executive to consult with College Heads on policy matters relating to student experience and welfare
