Sydney University Sport (SUS) was created on 1 January 2003 by the merger of the Sydney University Sports Union (SUSU) and Sydney University Women's Sports Association (SUWSA). SUS became the successor body to those two organisations and was an unincorporated body affiliated to the University under a resolution of the Senate of the University. Sydney University Sport was also called Sydney Uni Sport or SU Sport. The object of SUS was to promote the health and well-being of the members of SU Sport as well as the University and general communities through the provision of sport and recreational activities and facilities. The first President of the organisation was Mr Bruce Ross and its first Executive Director Mr Gregory Harris.Sydney University Sport (trading as Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness) was run as an unincorporated association. On 1 July 2006 Senate resolved:1. There shall be the following societies which shall be governed by their respective constitutions subject to these resolutions: the Students' Representative Council, the University of Sydney Union, the Sydney University Postgraduate Representative Association, the Sydney University Sports Union*, the Sydney University Women's Sports Association*, the Cumberland Student Guild and the Student Association of the Sydney College of the Arts. (see http://sydney.edu.au/policies/showdoc.aspx?ecnum=PDOC2011/86&RendNum=0 accessed 19/06/2015)At the SUS Annual General Meeting in 2008 the motion was passed to change the name of the organisation to Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness (SUSF). However, it was subsequently found that changing the name would involve considerable legal expense and it was therefore put to the Annual General Meeting at 11 May 2009 that the organisation continue to use Sydney Uni Sport and Fitness as a registered trading name but that the official name be retained as Sydney University Sport. (TRIM File 2008/6378)In 2015 SUSF managed and administered more than 45 sport and recreation clubs, organised sporting and recreation events and offered a comprehensive range of sporting facilities to students and the wider Sydney community. SUSF had produced more Australian representatives and won more major competitions than any other club and was an influential body in the sporting domain. (SUFS Website at https://www.susf.com.au/page/who_we_are.html ) accessed 20/5/2015)Following a review of SUS’s corporate form and governance structure in 2019, in January 2020 a new company limited by guarantee was formed (Sydney University Sport and Fitness Limited), more suited to the size and scope of the business. Governed by a bard of 10 non-executive directors, like its predecessor the new entity was registered as a charity. In 2020 SUFS was responsible for the administration and coordination of sport and fitness facilities and programs for members of the University, its 41 affiliated clubs and the local community.
