From 1 January 1990 upon amalgamation of the Sydney College of the Arts and the University of Sydney, the College became an academic college of the University. Within the university structure academic colleges were responsible for the supervision of teaching and the conduct of examinations.
The Academic Board of the SCA New South Wales Institute of Arts (NSWIA) was replaced by the Sydney College of the Arts College Board which continued the work of the Academic Board. The composition of the College Board was governed by resolution of the Senate and at the time comprised the following members:
(a) the professors, readers, associate professors, senior lecturers, lecturers, senior tutors and tutors who are full-time or fractional, permanent or temporary members of the teaching staff of the departments placed under the supervision of the Sydney College of the Arts;
(b) the Director and Deputy Director of the Sydney College of the Arts;
(c) such part-time teaching staff of the Sydney College of the Arts who have been employed for two or more years; (d) the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture or the Dean's nominee;
(e) one member of the teaching staff of the Department of Fine Arts nominated by the Head of the Department of Fine Arts;
(f) one member of the Faculty of Arts, not being a member of the Department of Fine Arts, nominated by the Faculty of Arts;
(g) the Director of the Museum of Contemporary Arts;
(h) the Director of the Sydney University Art Workshop;
(i) the Librarian-in-charge of the Information Resources Centre of Sydney College of the Arts;
(j) not more than two persons distinguished in the field of visual arts appointed by the Senate on the nomination of the Chairperson of the College Board with the approval of the College Board;
(k) not more than four students elected in the manner prescribed by resolution of Senate.
The College Board under its chairperson, Director Richard Dunn, met for the first time on 15 February 1990 confirming the minutes of the last meeting of the SCA NSWIA Academic Board.
