Sydney College of the Arts Students Association (SCASA)

The Sydney College of the Arts Students Association (SCASA) was most likely established in 1976, the year of the first student intake of the College. It was in existence by 1977; the 1978 ZX newsletter mentions the re-election of the the SCASA Committee.

The Association was run by an elected committee of approximately eight students which was responsible for the organisation and operation of the Association. Elections were held at the beginning of the College academic year at the AGM of SCASA which was held in March. All students were eligible to be nominated for election. The Committee held regular meetings to make decisions and structure policy. It made the financial decisions of how money would be spent, on how the student body would be represented, etc.. Any student could make a submission of allocation of funds or seek support in particular areas like representation, liaising with the College administration.

SCASA was funded by membership fees, which were compulsory for all full-time or part-time students. (info: SCASA Black & White Blurb 1987)
