The School of Information Technology was first known as the Basser Department of Computer Science. The name change was approved by the Vice-Chancellor in 2001. The VC reported on the name change at the Senate meeting of 3 December 2001: 134/01 Report of the Vice-Chancellor and Principal: (1) Update for Senate’s information (a) Basser Department of Computer Science The Vice-Chancellor reported that he had approved the change of name of the Basser Department of Computer Science to the School of Information Technologies.
School of IT is within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, "Our research activities are strongly focussed in the areas of algorithmics and applications, enterprise computing, human centred computing and IT applications in health care. Much of our research is interdisciplinary and internationally collaborative.Our undergraduate and postgraduate courses are accredited by the Australian Computer Society (ACS), teaching fundamental principles and practical skills in IT, and establishing the foundations for an entire career. The School of IT has a purpose built building with state of the art facilities, maintaining its position as a key teaching and research institution."
