The Computer Policy Committee was appointed by the Vice-Chancellor following recommendations of the “Tanner Committee”. Appointed in August 1983 the Tanner Committee had the brief to advise the Vice-Chancellor on computing activities and needs over the following 5 years; it presented its report in August 1984. A copy of the report is included in item 1 of the Minute Series.Recommendation 23 of the report was that a Computer Policy Committee be established to plan the direction and provision of computing facilities for the University and to report on the University Computing Centre. The Committee was to replace the existing VCAC on Computing and Tanner Committee.The Vice-Chancellor's Report to Senate of 5 November 1984 implemented the Computer Policy Committee which was to report to the Vice-Chancellor and be appointed by the Vice-Chancellor. The first meeting of the Committee was held on 4 December 1984.
