Planning Committee with Respect to the Reorganisation of Certain Colleges of Advanced Education in the Sydney Metropolitan Area

On 11 October 1979 the Minister for Education informed Sydney Teachers College, Alexander Mackie College of Advanced Education, Nursery School Teachers College and Sydney Kindergarten Teachers College that he had approved the recommendation to establish a single new college.

In a statement of 20 December 1979, the Minister proposed to establish a Planning Committee with equal numbers of representatives of the CAEs. It was to prepare reports on the steps necessary to establish the new college. Specialist groups were formed to deal with legislation, academic structure, finance and property, staff and student matters.

The Planning Committee with Respect to the Reorganisation of Certain Colleges of Advanced Education in the Sydney Metropolitan Area met for the first time on 19 March 1980 under the Chairmanship of Mr Harold White. The recommendations of the Committee were presented to the Minister in its First Summary Report on 1 December 1980. The Summary Report included plans for the Guild Teachers College, which had decided to join the amalgamation.

Having submitted the First Summary Report, the Planning Committee did not meet again.
