In 1982 the Guild Teachers College became part of the Sydney College of Advanced Education and the Guild Centre became one of its constituent institutes. The Guild was free standing, semi-autonomous body, which had the role of providing study programmes and services relevant to the needs of non government education to the various SCAE institutes.
