In 1993 the Buildings and Grounds agency was renamed as Site Planning and Facilities Management, then Facilities and Management Planning, operating as the Facilities Management Office. In 2006 the agency was merged with Property and Commercial Services and named Campus Property and Services, incorporating the functions of property management but these were transferred to Investment and Capital Management in 2007. Since 2007 the agency has been called Campus Infrastructure Services.
The Facilities Management Office was responsible for the planning, development, maintenance and property services operations for the University's buildings and grounds. The four divisions were Strategic facilities planning; Capital Works; Maintenance; and Property Management.
On 12 December 2019 the University announced on the Staff News that Campus Infrastructure and Services would become University Infrastructure (UI) and Central Operations Services (COS) from 1 January 2020. The two new Professional Service Units (PSUs) were being created to better support the research and teaching needs of the University.
UI would lead and develop a client-focused Property and Infrastructure Planning and Delivery Unit to support University and faculty strategies. This included planning and design, property development, infrastructure delivery, space and sustainability.
COS would be positioned to better enable the ongoing use of the University's infrastructure, through a focus on the strategic whole-of-life asset management, security, safety, as well as enhanced delivery of essential operational services to staff, academics and students in a manner which delivered to the University's sustainability objectives. COS was also to be responsible for managing the new Shared Service Centre (SSC).
