Department of Art History and Theory

The Power Bequest enabled the Department of Fine Arts to be established in 1967 and the first course, Fine Arts 1 was delivered from 1968. Senate at its February 1998 meeting noted that the Vice Chancellor had approved  a change of name from the Department of Fine Arts to the Department of Art History and Theory. At the same meeting it was noted that the Vice-Chancellor had approved a change of name of the Power Institute of Fine Arts to the Power Institute: Centre for Art and Visual Culture.
