Advisory Councils of the Postgraduate Committee in Medicine (1961)

At the Annual Meeting of the Postgraduate Commitee in Medicine on 27 March 1961, the Committee approved the constitution of advisory council in various specialties and subjects and referred it to the Executive and Finance Committee for further implementation and report. [Series G83/1]

There does not seem to be a copy of the Consitution for advisory Councils. However, the Minutes from the first meeting of the Advisory Council in Pathology (20/4/64) describe the function of the Advisory Council as being to:

"advise the Postgraduate Committee in Medicine on postgraduate courses of training for the specialty of pathology, postgraduate instruction in pathololgy for trainees in other specialties; the conduction of lectures on pathology in country areas; refresher courses for pathologists in practice; visits by pathologists from overseas and by lecturers with related interests; the future of the course for the DCP (Sydney) with regard to curriculum and possibly fees; matters relating to pathology in general. The Council had the power to recommend the expenditure of money for courses, overseas lecturers etc. but not the power to authorise it."

Advisory Councils were established for Anaesthetics, Cancer, Cardio-Pulmonary Diseases, Dermatology, General Practice, Opthalmology, Orthopaedic & Traumatic Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Pathology.
