Salaries and Wages Books [Accountants Office] (Series 288)

The 4 bound volumes contain the name of the employee, the office or Department and the bank used by the employee. The layout is a 12 column one, which contains the amount paid. Pay-days were usually on the 1st and 15th of each month, irrespective of whether the employee was an academic/teaching or general staff. In many cases, the salary would be drawn from a specific fund, e.g., the Challis or the PN Russell, which is noted. By 1921, there were 363 separate entries for both academic/teaching and general staff. Also by 1921, allowances paid to retirees were recorded, as were the employees and the University's contributions to the State Provident Fund, there being 32 contributors at that stage. Of these, 25 were academic/teaching staff, 3 staff of the Library, and 4 other general staff.
