Born on 6th January 1925 in Largs Bay, South Australia. Married 20 May 1950
He received his Leaving Certificate from The Scots College in November 1942 and, in 1943, he enrolled in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Sydney where he he graduated with a BA with first-class honours and the University Medal on 24 May 1947.
He was appointed Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Sydney University in 1948; he was promoted to Senior Lecturer and then Associate Professor and, in 1965, was appointed Professor to the McCaughey Chair of Psychology. [Senate Minutes 1/11/1965].
