Kemp, Leslie Charles Dunstan
Leslie Kemp was born on 12 March 1915. He received his BA form the University of Sydney on 7 May 1938 and his MA on 24 May 1947."Dr Dunstan Kemp, Principal for eleven years, retired at the end of First Term, 1979. Dr Kemp's association with the College, as student, lecturer, Vice-Principal, and Principal, spanned a period of almost half a century. He joined the staff of the College as a lecturer in Education during CR McRae's principalship. After a periodaway from the College, during which he undertook doctoral studies at the University of London, and spent a year as the Acting Principal of Armidale Teachers College, he returned to Sydney to become Vice-Principal of this College in 1960, and on Dr Turner's retirement in 1967, he was appointed Principal.In addition to his work as Principal of the College, Dr Kemp contributed to the profession of education through his writings, his editorship of The Forum of Education, his participation in the work of various boards and committees and his addresses to conferences. He was a much-travelled Principal, having several timesspent periods in various universities and other educational centres in overseas countries studying trends in teacher education. He was also a Fellow of the Australian College of Education.Although retiring from active work in the College, Dr Kemp has remained closely concerned with education through his work as Chairman of the Board of Teacher Education, as Deputy Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Conservatorium of Music, as a member of the State Committee of Inquiry into Teacher Education, and as a member of the Executive Committee of Convocation of the University of Sydney." The University made him an Hon. Fellow of the University on 27 May 1989. There were death notices for him in the SMH on 28 Feb 2011 and 2 & 3 Mar 2011 with a funeral date set for 4 March 2011.
