John McLuckie (1890-1956), born in Scotland, graduated MA BSc from the University of Glasgow. He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Science with the University Medal by the University of Sydney in March 1922 for his studies on parasitic plants. (University Calendar 1922 page 529.)
McLuckie was initially appointed to the Botany Department as assistant lecturer and demonstrator in 1915. In 1924, Professor Lawson recommended that McLuckie, then Lecturer in Botany, be appointed Assistant Professor of Plant Physiology. In 1944, he was appointed to a readership. He was acting Professor of Botany on several occasions. After Mcluckie's retirement in 1955, he was part-time lecturer until his death in September 1956. [Personnel file in G3/187]
