Born in Glen Innes NSW, Ogilvie graduated from the University of Sydney in 1923. From 1926 to 1940, she was on the staff of Rachel Foster Hospital for Womem and Children in Sydney. In 1931, she studied hospital administration in USA. In 1933-34, she completed a course in medical social work in Britain and became an associate of the Institute of Almoners. From 1941 to 1954, she held the position of senior almoner at Sydney Hospital and director of training for the NSW Institute of Almoners. University of Sydney graduates elected her Fellow of the University Senate in Dec 1943; she served until 1949. The University of Sydney appointed Olgilvie to a temporary lectureship in Social Work in 1954; this appointment was renewed each year until 1957 when she was appointed to a permanent lectureship.
