The Calendar is the annual University publication which provides:
• general and historical information about the University of Sydney;
• names of officers including administration and teaching staff;
• the statutes and regulations under which the university operates; and
• the Senate resolutions relating to constitutions and courses in each faculty.
In earlier years, the annual University Calendars also contained such information as:
• the annual Senate Report to the Governor and the Executive Council which summarised University activities and included the audited University accounts, appointments and obituaries (Calendars to 1970s);
• an accumulative list of graduates of the University, arranged by Faculty, which was updated each year (Calendars to 1975). Please note that you can also search Alumni Sidneienses for graduates;
• women graduates by their married name (Calendars 1925 to 1930);
• undergraduates (Calendars to 1943/1944), listing the current year undergraduates by Faculty and Year;
• examination papers (Calendars to 1914);
• examination results and prize holders from the previous year or years (pass and higher), and the current year matriculants who have passed the entrance test to University (Calendars to 1975);
• scholarships, prizes and bursaries;
• timetables (almanac);
• table of fees; and
• bibliographic and research publications.
From 1978 until 1985 the Notes pages at the end of each volume include the name of the then head of Registrar's Publications Jeremy Steele, who produced the Calendars, in Hangul - the Korean script - and an Egyptian hieroglyph for "m" - an owl - for Chris Mansell who assisted in the production. These were included without formal approval.
A Calendar was not published in the following years: 1855, 1864, 1869, 1871, 1872 and 1997. The Archives holds PDFs of the Calendars from 1852 to 1998. Volumes from 1999 to 2017 can be accessed via Fisher Library. The Calendar is no longer published in hard copy and is available on the University website under Governance and Structure.
