Sydney College of Advanced Education (SCAE)
The Sydney College of Advanced Education (SCAE) was established on 24 July 1981 as a corporation under the Colleges of Advanced Education Act 1975. SCAE commenced operation on 1 January 1982. The former colleges now part of the new body were the Alexander Mackie College of Advanced Education, Guild Teachers College, Nursery School Teachers College, Sydney Kindergarten Teachers College, and Sydney Teachers College.
SCAE was initially composed of Institutes and a Centre: Institute of Early Childhood Studies, Institute of Technical and Adult Education, City Art Institute, St George Institute of Education, Sydney Institute of Education, and the Guild Centre. In late 1984 the Institute of Nursing Studies became the sixth Institute of SCAE. From January 1988 City Art Institute joined the East Sydney Art School and, with those parts of the Sydney College of the Arts not joining the University of Technology, Sydney, becoming the NSW Institute of the Arts.
Following the amalgamations taking effect in 1990, the individual institutes were amalgamated. Sydney Institute of Education and the Institute of Nursing Studies joined the University, Institute of Early Childhood Studies joined Macquarie University, St George Institute of Education joined the University of New South Wales, and the Institute of Technical and Adult Teacher Education joined the University of Technology, Sydney.
