Citizenship and Enlistment of Indigenous People in the AIF

The contents of this folder consist of a roneoed circular by the Committee for Aboriginal Citizenship concerning the granting of citizenship for Aboriginal people, dated 18 April 1941, and, three typescript pages of two confidential memoranda by the Secretary of the Aborigines' Welfare Board dated 17 September 1940. The memoranda concerned the enlistment of Aborigines in the AIF and the Country Women's Association of NSW resolutions to be submitted to a forthcoming Conference of the Northern Tablelands Group. 

The Country Women's group advised that the Armidale Branch was putting forward the following resolutions 

 i) that Aborigines are permitted to share in social benefits; 

ii) that the NSW Government do the same with Child Endowment Money; 

iii) the settlements be staffed by trained officers.
